Councillor Advocate Fungai Chimwamurombe
Advocate Fungai Chimwamurombe is an adept legal mind whose influence extends beyond the legal field. When it comes to laws concerning microfinance, land, construction, media, contracts restructuring and interpretation, debt recovery, commercial advisory and labour matters the man is incomparable. He is an expert in dealing with family law and trust matters and has done so for high net worth individuals in Zimbabwe. He is indeed a man of great intellect and passion. Did you know that besides law and finance, Fungai is a registered Estates Administrator, member of the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe and sits on seven boards which include Contact Centre Association of Zimbabwe, Zamfi, AB Communications, Zambuko Microfinance Trust, Nyangani FM, Ark Child Trust & Nyanga RDC. Being the ultimate all-rounder, Fungai is also a columnist for a local newspaper named Business Times in which he advises on estate planning & restructuring, he is also an avid entrepreneur running multiple businesses of his own. He was awarded Institute of Corporate Directors Zimbabwe’s (ICDZ ) most influential young business leaders under 40 in 2023 and 2025 at the pinnacle of all his accolades lies his recent appointment as the Mayor of Nyanga.
Position Held: MAYOR/COUNCIL CHAIRPERSON.
Key responsibilities: Representing the local authority at official events, ceremonies and functions. Providing leadership and guidance to the local authority. Ensuring that the local authority operates in accordance with relevant laws, regulations and policies. Making decisions on behalf of the council often in consultation with other council members. Chairing council meetings ensuring that discussions are productive, respectful and maintaining order.
Position Held: COUNCILLOR WARD 25, NYANGA SOUTH CONSTITUENCY.
Key responsibilities: Representing the interest and concerns of ward and constituency at council meetings. Engaging with the ward and constituency listening to the concerns and respond to the needs of the ward and constituency. Contributing to the development of policies and initiatives that benefit the ward and constituency. Monitoring the delivery of services such as waste management, road maintenance and public safety.
Position Held: CHAIRPERSON OF MANICALAND MAYOR CLUSTER
Key responsibilities: Providing leadership and guidance. Advocating for the Mayors needs and concerns in the cluster. Coordinating the activities and initiatives of cluster members to achieve common goals. Providing regular reports on the clusters activities and challenges.
